Should Liverpool FC Bid for 'Want Away' Striker Paraguayan Lucas Barrios?

As reported in my last article, a host of clubs were after Liverpool target Eduardo Vargas from Chile. However, as it seems now, Vargas seems to have agreed to join Napoli.

Thus, the Reds now will have to look for some other target for the much talked about striker's position.

Now, of all the strikers that are available in the January market, there could be very few as experienced as Lucas Barrios, the 27-year-old Paraguayan frontman from Borussia Dortmund. The South American striker, who is also known as La Pantera or The Panther, has been a key player for Dortmund up front for the past two years.

However, now with his strike partner, the Polish Robert Lewandowski up the pecking order at Dortmund and in tremendous form, Lucas has announced that he could be ready to move on to get more first-team action elsewhere.

Although initial rumors have linked the striker mainly with a move to Chelsea, things look far from sorted out and if Liverpool really want, they should be able to make a move for the Paraguayan target man.

With 35 goals in 73 matches, Barrios has a good enough resume to challenge for a move to a bigger club, even though the Premier League could be a different story compared to the Bundesliga.

Liverpool, on the other hand, has been linked with the in-form Lewandowski, but with the 23-year-old currently leading the goal-scoring charts for The Black Yellows, it could be more expensive if the Reds want to continue their pursuit.

Lucas Barrios, on the other hand, could be a better bet because of his wealth of experience at the very top level. Proven predatory instincts added to the possible lower price tag could make this a real bargain if Liverpool manage to get him.
