In light of Manchester United's latest come from behind win at West Ham, I thought it would be a good thing to look back on some of United's greatest Premier League comebacks in recent years.

Sir Alex Ferguson has instilled a hatred of losing into the Red Devils, instigating some of the greatest comebacks in all of world football.

5) Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United 2001

Date: 2001

Fixture: Tottenham Hotspur

Venue: White Hart Lane

Well and truly beaten in the first half, United trailed 3-0 to Spurs going into half time. Goals by Dean Richards, Les Ferdinand and Christian Ziege inflicted the damage to United during the first period.

However, in typical fashion, United started the second half flying scoring a goal less than one minute after the restart. A diving header from Andy Cole kicked off United's magnificent comeback. United clawed their way back into the game via a header from Laurent Blanc off of a David Beckham corner. The equalizer soon followed as Ruud van Nistelrooy rose above the defense to nestle the ball into the bottom corner of the net. United never looked back, and took the lead through a well struck shot from Juan Sebastian Veron. The victory was sealed when David Beckham fired a shot across goal that found itself inside the left post and into the net.

Truly one of United's best comebacks in recent years.

4) Manchester United vs Blackpool 2011

Venue: Bloomfield Road

United were unbeaten heading into their match away to Blackpool and no one expected them to lose to the Seasiders. However, a after rocky start and impressive play from Blackpool, United found themselves 2-0 down at half time. This wasn't something United usually frets about, however, a sub par performance in the first half left many fans shaking their heads.

After what could only have been a heated discussion at half time, Fergie's men marched out and showed the heart of champions. The Premier League's top scorer, Dimitar Berbatov, opened the scoring for United after 70 minutes. Super sub Javier Hernandez then equalized with a well placed shot under the out rushing keeper. And everyone knew what was coming next, with 2 minutes left in regulation, Berbatov once again slotted past Richard Kingson to wrap up 3 more points for United and move them 5 points clear at the top of the table.

3) Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur 2009

Venue: Old Trafford

Two goals in three minutes from Darren Bent and Luka Modric put Tottenham in a comfortable position before half time. However, similar to the comeback against Aston Villa, United were not to be denied three points.

A penalty kicked off the scoring for United, which Ronaldo confidently slotted home. Rooney then brought United level with a strong, low shot inside the near post. Ronaldo grabbed his brace just a minute later off of a header which he laid out to reach. Then Wayne Rooney grabbed his double shortly after, with an easy tap in. The scoring was rounded off by Dimitar Berbatov in an awkward goal line scramble.

Another great escape for Man United, and another 3 points in what turned out to be a pivotal match in the title race.

2) West Ham United vs Manchester United 2011

Manchester United's most recent comeback. West Ham were blowing bubbles amidst their 2-0 lead on United at half time. Two penalties set United back; one of which was deserved as Patrice Evra handled the ball, and a contentious second where Vidic brought down Carlton Cole outside the box.

West Ham were treading on thin ice as United dominated the match, and in the second half, the Hammers cracked. Wayne Rooney curled a brilliant free kick around the wall that beat Robert Green to open the scoring. Rooney soon added another with a great touch in the box to evade the defenders before smashing the ball into the bottom corner. Fortune favored United as they were awarded a controversial penalty when Fabio played the ball to Matthew Upson's arm. Rooney made no mistake with the spot kick, and sent Green the wrong way, to complete an astonishing hat trick. Chicharito finished the scoring with an easy tap in, off of some dodgy defending.

West Ham were in dreamland in the first half, however, United popped their bubbles and sent them into the relegation zone.

1) Manchester United vs Aston Villa 2009

United looked as if they were going to stroll through this match when Cristiano Ronaldo scored a peculiar goal off of an indirect free kick inside Villa's box. However, Villa fought back and had a surprising lead at Old Trafford heading into half time, thanks to John Carew and Gabriel Agbonlahor goals.

Heading into the final ten minutes of the match it seemed like United were going to be denied a draw, let alone a win. However, on the 80 minute mark Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to the plate and squeezed a left footed shot into the corner of the net. Because of injury problems to other players, Sir Alex threw on the 17 year old Kiko Macheda, to try and shake things up...that's just what he did.

In the final minute of the match, Macheda received the ball in the box, swiveled, and curled the ball into the back of the net to complete the comeback. It was perhaps the best and most important goal scored by a United player on his debut.
