MLB Power Rankings 2011: The Worst MLB Player Tattoos in the Game

Eric Ball

Most people don't think about professional baseball when it comes to tattoos. The NBA is the sport that immediately comes to mind, with the NFL a distant second.

But don't be mistaken, plenty of MLB players are inked up.

Problem is, not all tattoos are created equal.

Some people call tattoos "body art."

Here are 10 MLB players who were not thinking about art when they decided to go under the needle.

10. Kyle Farnsworth

Farnsworth prides himself as one of the scariest dudes in the league.

He has been involved in his fair share of fights over the years, he throws an incredibly fast heater and he also sports barbed wire around the bottom of his bicep.

Couple that with some sort of bizarre rocket tattoo across his ribs and you have one bizarre-looking combination of ink.

That's without mentioning the arrows on his right forearm and whatever the hell is on his left shoulder.

9. Tim Hudson

I have nothing but respect for Tim Hudson, the baseball player. He went 17-9 with a 2.83 ERA for the Braves in 2010.

Outstanding.

His tribal tattoo of a baseball on his pitching arm?

Weak.

8. Henry Blanco

Blanco has been a reliable backup catcher for seemingly forever now, but his tattoos are not as consistent.

The front of his forearm holds a cool looking tribal tattoo that almost looks like a big spider.

But check out the back of his arm.

What's the deal with the random wavy lines all over the place? Am I missing something here?

It looks as if he had a huge and complex image in the works, but ran out of money at the tattoo parlor.

7. Prince Fielder

Throw me on the committee for people against neck tattoos.

Besides being one of the most painful places to get ink, it's such a distraction when trying to look at a person.

"Hey bro, you got a bug on your neck. Wait, you paid for that?"

Fielder has Prince spelled out in Korean on the left side of his noggin because there are so many Korean kids that wish they knew his name.

It's a shame because Fielder has some really cool ink on his biceps.

6. Jon Rauch

Are those tattoos you can get from the 25-cent machine?

Rauch has some cool-looking flames across his shoulders, but what was he thinking on his ankle?

The Olympic rings remind him of his incredible performance in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

But the flaming cartoon-ish baseball?

It looks like something a six-year-old would sport, not the tallest pitcher in professional baseball.

He also loses points for having a neck tattoo.

5. Scott Spiezio

This tattoo sure is a ballsy move.

I think we all know what kind of women Spiezio prefers judging by his ink. His choice of tattoos sure does bring up a lot of questions...

What if he is hitting on a woman who is smaller and lacking the assets of the woman on his arm?

What if Spiezio never finds a woman who compares to his tattoo?

What if he falls in love with his arm?

He may not be invited to any pool parties at the Oval Office anytime soon, but I will give him points for the uniqueness of it.

Think about it, though...you have to be confident to engulf your entire left bicep with a tattoo like that and still expect to get women.

4. Jonny Gomes

The former Rays and current Reds left fielder is quite outlandish.

He rocks a mohawk, he drives a Cadillac Fleetwood and he was recently accused of celebrating the arm injury of Adam Wainwright.

Naturally, he has a few tattoos.

I don't know about you...but I don't think bright colors and a seashell scream manly gladiator-like athlete.

Maybe it's just me, but Gomes' tattoos look more suitable for a woman in the middle of her mid-life crisis.

3. Brandon Inge

I guess they look kind of cool, but can you tell that his left arm reads "Chase" and his left arm reads "Tyler"?

While tattooing your kids' names onto your body is nothing new...usually it's easily legible, right?

I give Inge an "A" for effort, but I give his tattoo artist a big fat "F."

2. Jason Giambi

That flaming skull is just plain scary.

Back in his heyday, when he was injecting himself with steroids on a regular basis, this tattoo made plenty of sense. He was one of the most feared sluggers in the league with the Oakland A's.

But in 2011 as a skinny pinch-hitter?

Not so much.

Giambi is a classic case of living in the moment when he went under the needle. Now the chilled-out former slugger is stuck with this monstrosity on his left bicep for the rest of his life.

Considering his bicep must have decreased 10-fold since baseball cracked down on steroids, I wonder how bad the stretch marks are looking these days.

1. Josh Hamilton

The tattoo king of MLB has them littered throughout his entire body.

Hamilton went under the needle a whopping 26 times in a four-year period. He was battling alcoholism and drugs at the time and his "tattoo buddies" were his enablers.

Now Hamilton is the reigning MVP of the American League after turning his life around and he is now a devout Christian.

But finding religion can't erase the human easel that his body has become.

Getting multiple tattoos around his belly button? Just plain weird.

I wonder what he has on his lower back...
