Michael Jordan: Did His Sons Blow $80K in Vegas?

Elliott Pohnl

Jeff and Marcus Jordan reportedly painted Las Vegas green in a spending spree of epic proportions over the weekend, according to multiple reports.

The Jordan brothers and fellow Central Florida teammate A.J. Rompza were in Vegas for Michael Jordan's Fantasy Basketball camp, which was held at the Mirage Casino Resort.

So how much did the young Jordan boys really spend?  Here's a closer look at the details.

$35K at Haze and Around $50K in One Day

According to TerezOwens.com, the Jordans spent at least $35,000 at Haze Nightclub and Liquid Pool Lounge.

Marcus Jordan tweeted that the total for Saturday alone exceeded $50,000.

$13.5K to $15K for the Fantasy Camp

Ever dream of being like Mike?  You can at least be with Mike, but it will cost you.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that Michael Jordan's fantasy camp costs between $13,500 and $15,000 per person to attend.  According to basketballsbest.com, the camp cost $15,000 if registration came after May 1.

Campers got the chance to be coached by the likes of Tom Izzo and Hubie Brown, to mingle with His Airness, and to participate in a Texas Hold 'Em tournament.

$15,000 for four days of "instruction" seems a bit excessive.

Like Father, Like Son?

Coincidentally, news of the young Jordans' extravagant weekend surfaced a day before ESPN aired a "30 for 30" presentation, Jordan Rides the Bus, documenting Michael Jordan's sudden retirement from the NBA to play baseball.

Among the topics discussed in the program was Jordan's love of gambling, which has been well documented throughout the years.

M.J.'s competitive drive fueled a love of gambling that influenced plenty of NBA players, including Charles Barkley and Antoine Walker.  In 2007, his name even came up at the trial of James Bouler when a check for $57,000 written by Jordan was admitted as evidence in a money-laundering trial.

It was later revealed that the money was to cover debt Jordan owed after gambling losses in poker and golf.

Jordan often said he never bet what he couldn't cover, and also steadfastly denied that he had a gambling problem.

From the sound of it, his sons were just out to have some fun before the start of the fall semester.  Time will tell if the apple will indeed fall far from the tree.

The Tweet That Was Untweeted

Marcus Jordan's tweet made it known to the world that the party was really going on in Vegas:

"Last night was stupid," Marcus Jordan wrote on his Twitter account. "... 35k at Haze... Totals 50k something the whole day.. Damn!! Going to the pool again today.. Gotta relax!"

Soon after it hit Twitter, the tweet disappeared.  Social media isn't always such a great idea, especially for college athletes.

Back to School

The tweets continued Monday, when Rompza posted a message on his Twitter account; "Starting the semester off good tomorrow.  Workouts early cant wait.  Its time to put UCF on the map for basketball!  I want it."

Central Florida might want to get the Jordan boys and Rompza off Twitter before another unfortunate tweet makes waves.
