Barclays Take Charge Of Liverpool FC Sale,Rafa Eyes Silva For Silverware

The fate of Liverpool FC seems a little brighter. After continued protests from all over, the Cowboy owners of the club have apparently agreed to put the club on sale. Hicks and Gillette are also planning to move out of the administration of Liverpool FC, with British Airways chairman Martin Broughton closing in as Chairman of the club. Martin is a respectable figure and has been around with the British Airways for nearly a decade. He has also been reported to be interested in Horse racing and Chelsea .

However, the foresaid seems only an interim arrangement, as H & G plan to sell the club. Unlike a few months back when the current owners were only interested in minority stake holders and investments, they are understood to have both agreed to the concept of selling the club altogether for the first time. In order to further enhance their search for new and interested investors, they have appointed Barclays to aid them in the process. Earlier although, Liverpool Managing Director Christan Purslow tried to hasten the search process for investment by approaching Merill Lynch and the likes, the process of selling the club altogether has made the club approach Barclays.

The valuation of the club is not very very clear though, reports all around suggest bids around 300m -550m GBP would be enough for H & G to let go the control of the club. If Liverpool FC gets sold it should not come as a surprise though, Hicks and Gillet have been much maligned by the fans and supporters for failing to live up to their promises frequently, and with club at an all time low in the present decade, H& G would only profit whatever the selling price be as they had bought the club for about 220m GBP back in February 2007. Hicks & Gillette have lately been selling a lot of their sports teams and selling Liverpool FC for a profit in such hard times, only deems fit. However as the club is still a very reputed one, investors would still be tempted to think that investing in such a Club could well be worth a billion dollar profit, with all the craze that goes alongside English Football.

Rafael Benitez though has had enough of being just a promising outfit and after reportedly making a mockery of his critics by saying " they don't even have a clue" in response to much debated decision to withdraw Torres early versus Birmingham early, has clearly stated that in order to improve the present condition of the club, investments of around "15-20m each" for 3-4 players would be needed in the summer transfer window.

Some reports however seem to be much ahead, and claim that Rafa has his eyes set on Atletico Madrid Striker and ex-Manchester United player Diego Forlan and David Silva of valencia, who has been his much sought after target for quite sometime now. Provided Barclays succeed in finding a new and "fit" investor for the club fast, the foresaid outburst (which has been so specific for a first time)by  Benitez, a summer transfer kitty of atleast would seem 50m seems likely plus a few like Yossi benayoun, Albert Riera and may be even Ryan Babel and Alberto Aquilani  may be sold off to really cause a massive overhaul at the club.

Now, as per recent reports Rafa's choice of a 31-year old striker in the form of Diego Forlan, thereby hangs a tale. I think as he has already suffered once buying Fernando Moreintes nearing that age, Forlan's buy may be far from reality.Forlan would only be an option should any cash strains occur when Rafa purchases his  dream winger in the form of David Silva...

The choice of Forlan would only seem a reality if Spain really come out all guns blazing this world cup and Silva does exceptionally well,( which is very possible) as then a lot of interested offers may line up further hiking the value of the star. The reason I still doubt Forlan's chances are because Rafa has agreed finally that Milan Jovanovic is very close to signing a deal, and earlier Rafa had promised him a regular play alongside Torres as per reports. With Jovanovic nearing his 30's, yet another striker in that age group seems a little off-track to me. This is beacuse although Forlan though has been a very prolific striker after he left Old Trafford..Liverpool FC are now also looking at a possible construction of a new stadium at Stanley Park, so Rafa would know that too many 30 year olds may not be easily replaceable in a few years if and when the process finally starts off.

The fact that Rafael benitez has been very defence minded in his team selection, has been subject to some serious criticism so now with the possibility of some new investment Silva would be an ideal buy. The livewire,Valencia No. 21 who replaced Pablo Aimar, another Valencia's star player, has been very impressive as an attacking mid-fielder and also down the flanks. With his compatriot Fernando Torres still in the squad, the combination of Torres-Villa-Gerrard should really be a spectacle to look out for and take Liverpool that extra one-step further as Rafa says , towards Premeir League glory and Silverwares, that the Kopites have so patiently awaited all these while..
