The Seattle Seahawks are seemingly going to allow Shaquill Griffin's free agency to take its course.

ESPN's Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler reported Sunday that "the door is not shut" on Griffin's return, but the team won't "break the bank" for the cornerback. Per the report, he may be expecting a similar deal to the ones signed by James Bradberry and Byron Jones last season, in the $14.5 million to $16.5 million range for annual average value. 

Griffin, a third-round pick by the Seahawks out of Central Florida in 2017, posted a career-high three interceptions in 2020 while breaking up 12 passes and posting 63 tackles, a year removed form his Pro Bowl nod. He allowed receivers to complete 62.1 percent of passes under his coverage, allowing six touchdowns in 2020. 

He's proven himself throughout his first NFL contract, becoming one of just 12 cornerbacks to earn a Pro Bowl nod before turning 25—a list that also includes Jalen Ramsey and Tre'Davious White, according to Graziano and Fowler.

The ESPN report suggested Griffin may find himself on a one-year deal if his earnings on the market are limited to the salary cap, which is expected to rise in 2021. 

On the free-agent market, he's competing with a number of other cornerbacks, including veterans Patrick Peterson, Richard Sherman and Xavier Rhodes. The Las Vegas Raiders are said to be seeking help at the position, with all three players linked, per Graziano and Fowler.
