POSITIVES

— Legitimate track speed. A danger to take it for a score every time he gets to the second level.

— Glider running style with long strides allows him to rip off chunks when in open space. Can punish defenders taking wrong angles when he gets to the second level.

— Has the ability to consistently get to the edge on outside-run schemes. Adequate vision to get north as holes open up.

— Very productive in 2019.

NEGATIVES

— Upright and stiff-hipped runner. Rigid in his movements and attempts to run past defenders rather than make them miss with quick-twitch movements.

— Goes down very easily to side blows and foot tackles, especially when running in between the tackles.

— Just average lateral quickness and foot speed. Needs to chop his feet a couple of times before getting going.

— Looks to bounce and widen runs to utilize his speed too much.

— Below-average in pass protection. Lacks stoutness and is inconsistent in his effort and technique.

OVERALL

Chuba Hubbard has legitimate track speed who can break open a game when given the space and runway to do so. Hubbard is a smooth athlete with good acceleration and a gliding running style that can chew up yards when he gets to the second level. Hubbard lacks adequate lateral quickness and the ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces, preferring to simply outrun defenders to the edge.

He does display some vision and patience but has below-average contact balance and doesn't consistently play with a competitive edge or toughness, going down to side and shoestring tackles too easily. Hubbard does have above-average hands out of the backfield but is a little stiff in his route movements. He also needs work with his eyes and to improve strength if he wants to hold up in protection, as he's a half-step above a speed bump at this point.

Hubbard is a bit of a luxury player for a team that has a main RB already and other roles fulfilled in their RB room. He is a legitimate home run threat every time he touches the ball and gets good blocking in front of him, preferably on an outside-zone scheme or screen where he can race everyone to the edge or have space created. His questionable play strength limits his special teams appeal, and he would need to return to his early college career kick-returning roots to help boost his value on that front.
