Predicting WWE Return of John Cena, Undertaker, Goldberg and More Big Stars

Donald Wood

The WWE landscape has been shaken to its core during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but the dropping temperatures mean the company is heating up for a wild fall and some possible major returns.

Fall is an important time for WWE as it prepares for the Royal Rumble and the Road to WrestleMania 37. With so much uncertainty in the world, generating interest with big names is one way to bolster television ratings.

The return of major box-office draws such as John Cena, Undertaker, Goldberg and Ronda Rousey would not only instantly generate interest in the product during an important time, but it would also bring hardcore fans back to Raw and SmackDown.

Here are predictions on when some of the top names in wrestling will return to active WWE competition.

John Cena

At best, John Cena is a part-time Superstar. When he fought The Rock and told him that he was a hypocrite for leaving WWE behind and focusing on acting, fans never thought the 16-time champion would follow him to Hollywood.

While The Rock is a box-office Superstar, The Cenation Leader still needs WWE to help keep him relevant.

Just as he has done in the past, Cena should return in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 37 to say he doesn't have a match and wants to make room for the younger stars. At that moment, Mustafa Ali should lead Retribution to the ring and issue a challenge.

In a way to apologize for the egregious errors made in the Nexus program, Cena should put over Ali and the entire stable before selling his injuries in the battle by going back to Hollywood for a year.

Undertaker

One of the highlights of WWE in 2020 was the Boneyard match between The Undertaker and AJ Styles. While the 55-year-old legend has said he is done for good, it still wouldn't be a huge surprise if the critical acclaim his WrestleMania match received sees him extend his career once more.

As WrestleMania season approaches, the past several years have shown us never to count out The Undertaker.

To follow up on such a successful matchup against Styles, WWE needs to go big with the possible return feud for The Deadman. Who better to face him in a cinematic match at WrestleMania than "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt?

Wyatt and Undertaker have squared off on the biggest stage of them all in the past, but The Fiend is a new phenomenon. After seeing his Firefly Fun House match against Cena, the idea of the two creative geniuses coming together seems a dream move.

Goldberg

What makes Goldberg such an attraction is his ability to capture the raw energy of a crowd and turn it into big moments. While his matches aren't a technical masterpiece, his character is built on being a wrecking ball.

The perfect time to bring back the former WCW and WWE champion would be on the first show that allows fans in the building. The company should build toward that moment and leave Goldberg's appearance as a surprise.

Goldberg was the man who was supposed to put over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36, but the coronavirus outbreak changed plans. The perfect chance to give the WWE Universe Goldberg vs. Reigns would be during the first show with a crowd back in attendance.

The match would be short, but the potential impact of Reigns beating Goldberg and bringing his title run full circle would create a moment worthy of such an important show.

Ronda Rousey

The hunt to predict when Ronda Rousey will return to WWE programming has become a part-time obsession for many fans, but the ideal opportunity to make the maximum impact is still out there.

On the day Becky Lynch returns to the WWE main roster following her maternity leave, Rousey should spoil the moment and physically decimate the new mother, drawing the ire of the WWE Universe in an organic way.

The Man would instantly become the ultimate babyface, cutting fiery promos relating to fans about being a mother and missing the ring. On the other hand, the former UFC star could return as the cavalier heel who is just there to beat people up and cash checks.

The battle in the ring would be worthy of the WrestleMania main event, but the dueling promos between Lynch and Rousey would be enough to draw even the most casual fans into the product.
