The Chicago Bears and wide receiver Allen Robinson have reportedly resumed talks about a contract extension ahead of the team's Week 2 game against the New York Giants on Sunday.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported the update Saturday but noted there's a "significant gap" between the sides.

Robinson caused a stir Tuesday when he scrubbed references to the Bears from his social media accounts.

The 27-year-old Penn State product told reporters Wednesday the decision "took some emotion" but added he didn't want the situation to become a distraction for his teammates:

"I didn't know what would come from it. But again, at the same time, to your next question, those guys in that locker room is what makes playing special. I love my teammates, I have nothing but a ton of respect for those guys and even for me, it's unfortunate—hopefully you guys don't ask them many questions about this because this not their concern. I can't say enough about my teammates and those guys that I go to battle with each and every day. At the same time I appreciate those guys so much just in general and even in between the lines. I got a ton of respect for every single last person in that locker room."

Robinson, who made five catches for 74 yards in the team's Week 1 win over the Detroit Lions, is in the final season of his three-year, $42 million contract.

The Detroit native is coming off a strong 2019 season that saw him record a career-high 98 receptions for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns. His best statistical campaign came in 2015 with the Jacksonville Jaguars when he tallied 1,400 yards and 14 scores.

Brandon Parker, Robinson's agent, told ESPN's Adam Schefter they haven't requested a trade but added his client is "unhappy that Chicago has been unwilling to pay him market value for wide receivers."

Although Parker didn't mention specific numbers, a couple of Los Angeles Rams wideouts have recently signed extensions. Cooper Kupp got a three-year, $48 million deal, while Robert Woods received a four-year, $65 million contract. Robinson would probably like to beat those numbers on an annual basis.

The Bears' top target can become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason if no deal is reached, though the front office will retain the ability to use the franchise tag on him.

Robinson and Co. are scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday when they welcome the Giants to Soldier Field.
