Injuries continue to pile up for the Houston Astros, who will be without All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman because of a hamstring injury.

Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters Thursday that Bregman will go on the injured list and is flying back to Houston for an MRI.

Bregman exited Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies in the fourth inning. He limped into second base after hitting a double and was replaced by Abraham Toro.

MLB.com's Matt Kelly noted Bregman has had hamstring issues in the past, most recently in April 2019 when he missed two games.

The Astros have been hit hard by injuries this season. Baker told reporters Wednesday that reigning American League Rookie of the Year Yordan Alvarez will have season-ending surgery on his ailing right knee next week.

Outfielder Michael Brantley was placed on the injured list Aug. 15 with discomfort in his right quad. Reigning AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander has been on the injured list since July 27 with a strained forearm.

Despite those injuries, the Astros have won seven consecutive games and are 2.5 games behind the Oakland Athletics in the AL West.

Bregman is hitting .272/.374/.500 with four home runs and 14 RBI in 24 games.
