Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson said Thursday that outside linebacker Vic Beasley Jr. has informed the team he's planning to report for training camp in the "near future."

Here's the complete statement from Robinson:

"On Tuesday, July 28th, we placed Vic Beasley on the Reserve/Did Not Report list. I have been in contact with Vic, he is not here, he understands his absence is unexcused, and he told me he will be reporting to camp in the near future. Our current focus is on the players that are here now, getting everyone acclimated to the protocols, our building, and our football program. We will have the same acclimation process with Vic when he reports."

Beasley signed a one-year, $9.5 million contract with the Titans in March after spending the first five years of his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons, who selected him in the first round of the 2015 draft.

"It's been up and down for me," he told reporters after the 2019 season. "I wish my numbers would have been where I wanted them to be, but I can still continue to improve. I've got a lot of areas to work on. I'm excited. I'm at peace. I'm going to continue to work."

The 28-year-old Clemson product recorded 156 total tackles, 37.5 sacks, 12 passes defended, 11 forced fumbles and two touchdowns in 78 regular-season appearances for the Falcons. He recorded a league-leading 15.5 sacks in 2016, but no more than eight in any other year.

In April, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel was asked whether the team was concerned about lingering questions about the linebacker's work ethic.

"I'm not going to comment on what was done or what wasn't done in Atlanta," Vrabel said. "Our job is to have the vision for the player and coach him and hold him to a standard that's expected of our players. ... There will be a lot of people involved in helping him continue to develop and try to find a role for us and ultimately help us win."

Players are required to record three negative COVID-19 tests upon arrival to their team's home city before they're allowed to enter team facilities to begin preparations for the 2020 season.

Beasley is expected to start for the Titans at outside linebacker. Reggie Gilbert, Kamalei Correa and D'Andre Walker lead the group of players who'll likely compete to fill the void opposite Harold Landry for the duration of his absence from camp.

Tennessee is scheduled to open the regular season Sept. 14 when it travels to face the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.
