Rob Gronkowski Pins Mojo Rawley to Shockingly Win 24/7 Title at WrestleMania 36

Rob Gronkowski won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, but his greatest sporting achievement arguably happened Sunday at WrestleMania 36.

Gronkowski defeated his friend, Mojo Rawley, to claim the WWE 24/7 Championship.

The retired NFL star was on hand as part of his hosting duties for WrestleMania.

As soon as Gronkowski officially joined WWE, a run with the 24/7 title felt inevitable. Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter, NASCAR driver Kyle Busch and EDM DJ Marshmello are among the non-wrestlers to have briefly lifted the championship.

WWE planted the seeds for Gronk's victory Saturday, when Rawley pulled him off R-Truth to claim the belt for himself.

Looking too far beyond WrestleMania is tough given how much the COVID-19 pandemic could alter WWE's schedule.

A long-term feud between Rawley and Gronkowski would make sense, though, given their relationship outside of the ring. Gronkowski famously helped Rawley win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33 when he speared Jinder Mahal, whom Rawley went on to eliminate.

The crossover appeal with Gronkowski is large enough that he can wrestle anybody on the roster and it will be a big deal. Lawrence Taylor's WrestleMania XI match with Bam Bam Bigelow is a perfect example of that from years past.

WWE should also be wary of pushing him too fast. Pitting him against a top star would be a recipe for disaster in terms of getting fans on his side.

Monday's edition of Raw could provide some more context as to Gronkowski's next step.
