Free-agent quarterback Blake Bortles is reportedly "weighing several options" and could return to the Los Angeles Rams in 2020.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported Bortles will be "in the QB mix somewhere" next season. He spent the 2019 season with the Rams, throwing two passes for three yards as he spent the entire year behind Jared Goff.
"God forbid if something were to happen, that's why you go get Blake Bortles," Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters last September. "Because you do have confidence that if he had to, he could step in and lead the team and guys have confidence and belief in him."
A 2014 first-round pick, Bortles spent his first five seasons as the Jacksonville Jaguars' starting quarterback. He compiled a 24-49 record as a starter, throwing for 17,649 yards and 103 touchdowns against 75 interceptions. While his time in Jacksonville was considered a disappointment, Bortles did lead the Jaguars to the 2017 AFC Championship Game.
Bortles should be considered a quality backup who could fill in as a spot starter, so it's unsurprising he has a healthy market. Chase Daniel has built an entire career by being considered a competent backup, making more than $30 million while throwing only seven total touchdown passes.
It's likely Bortles wants a second crack at starting at some point in his career, though, so teams with shaky quarterback depth charts may be ones to watch.
