Sunday is one of WWE's most anticipated pay-per-views, and wrestling fans are picking their winners for the men's and women's titular Battle Royals at the 2020 edition of the Royal Rumble.
On the men's side, Superstars like Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, AJ Styles and Drew McIntyre are the most talked-about favorites, while Charlotte Flair, Shayna Baszler and even a returning Ronda Rousey are their female counterparts.
Here are the favorites, top contenders and dark-horse options to win the 2020 men's and women's Royal Rumbles.
Men's Favorite: Roman Reigns
After a triumphant return and several months playing second fiddle in the midcard, it's time for WWE CEO Vince McMahon's pride and joy, Roman Reigns, to once again ascend to the top of the mountain for his inevitable WrestleMania main event spot.
Reigns has been one of WWE's most relied-upon performers in recent years and continues to receive high-profile storylines. With the world title scenes needing a shot in the arm on both Raw and SmackDown, now would make sense for WWE Creative to give him another top spot at WrestleMania.
Women's Favorite: Ronda Rousey
Speculation has run rampant that former Raw women's and UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey could return at the Royal Rumble, but nothing is guaranteed. What is known is that if she is coming back for WrestleMania 36, it should happen Sunday.
If Rousey shows up, she's winning the women's Royal Rumble.
Rowdy is the biggest star in WWE—that includes Brock Lesnar. If the company can lure her back, even if it's for a short run, the prospective matchup against Becky Lynch would be a main event-worthy battle.
Men's Serious Contender: Drew McIntyre
Since his return to the main roster in 2018, Drew McIntyre has felt like he is on the cusp of a breakout match or a moment away from the main event spot. Unfortunately, his stories and matches haven't led to any extended push.
McIntyre has all the tools to be the top star, and Vince McMahon has shown his love for the Scottish Superstar in the past, so a victory Sunday isn't that farfetched.
Add in the fact that McIntyre is great in the ring, elite on the mic and offers plenty of charisma and sex appeal, and WWE giving him the Royal Rumble win would be a pleasant surprise.
Women's Serious Contender: Shayna Baszler
If Ronda Rousey isn't coming back for the Royal Rumble, it should be former NXT Women's champion Shayna Baszler who walks out of Houston victorious. From a storyline perspective, she is one hell of a consolation prize.
As an MMA veteran who would put on a great show with Lynch, Baszler would be worthy of the WrestleMania stage on her in-ring ability alone. But the matchup would work from a storyline perspective too.
If Rousey isn't ready to come back to WWE programming until after WrestleMania, Baszler could keep the program warm and even fuel even more animosity between the Four Horsewomen factions.
Men's Dark Horse: CM Punk
The Royal Rumble is known for the surprise entrants, but there would be no bigger shock in 2020 than the return of CM Punk. If the former WWE champion does show up Sunday, he will walk out of the Battle Royal victorious.
Punk would finally get his WrestleMania main event with a Royal Rumble win.
While WWE not mentioning Punk on its programming is a concern for fans pulling for his appearance, the possibility of his return is more likely than ever. If Punk walks through the curtain Sunday, the pop will be legendary, and the wrestling world would be changed forever.
Women's Dark Horse: Charlotte Flair
If Rousey isn't ready to return and Vince McMahon and Co. aren't ready to crown Baszler with a Royal Rumble win, look for the company to lean on its most trusted female Superstar, Charlotte Flair.
Flair has earned almost every possible accolade since joining the main roster in 2015, but she has never walked away from the 30-women Battle Royal victorious.
While many fans would hate it, a win Sunday would be fuel for the return of Charlotte as a full-fledged heel.
