Dodgers' Cody Bellinger, Corey Seager Avoid Arbitration with 1-Year Contracts

The Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly avoided arbitration with two of their marquee players before Friday's deadline.

According to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, the National League West team agreed to a one-year deal worth $11.5 million with first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger and a one-year deal worth $7.6 million with shortstop Corey Seager.

The pairing figures to be key for the Dodgers as they look to win an eighth straight National League West crown.

Expectations are higher than just that in Los Angeles, though, seeing as how the team has not won a single World Series in that span despite reaching two Fall Classics. The continued contributions of Seager and Bellinger will likely go a long way toward determining whether the Dodgers finally excel on the sport's biggest stage.

Seager is 25 years old with a National League Rookie of the Year, two Silver Sluggers and two All-Star appearances on his resume. He played just 26 games during the 2018 campaign because of injury but bounced back last year with a .272/.335/.483 slash line, 19 home runs and 87 RBI.

Bellinger is 24 years old with an NL MVP, NL Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger, Gold Glove and two All-Star nods on his illustrious resume and figures to be one of the faces of the league for years to come if he continues at this pace.

He impressed last season with a .305/.406/.629 slash line, 47 home runs and 115 RBI during the 2019 campaign and will look to replicate his performance under this new deal.
