Detroit Lions receiver Marvin Jones Jr. will miss the rest of the 2019 season after going on injured reserve with an ankle injury, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Jones played in 100 percent of his team's offensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

The 29-year-old will finish the season with 62 catches for 779 yards and nine touchdowns, which ties for second in the NFL.

Only teammate Kenny Golladay has more receiving touchdowns this year, and he and Danny Amendola should see increased targets as the 3-9-1 Lions try to end a six-game losing streak.

The latest injury represents a disappointing end to the season for Jones, who also finished the 2018 campaign on injured reserve because of a knee injury. He has played a full 16-game season in only three of his eight years and will have missed 10 games between 2018 and 2019.

Jones has still lived up to his five-year, $40 million contract signed in 2016 (27 touchdowns in 53 games), but the Lions could have a tough decision to make this offseason.

Jones will have a $9.2 million cap hit in 2020, the final year of his contract, but Detroit could save $6.5 million against the cap if he is released, per Spotrac.
