Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is reportedly expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported Evans will miss the team's final three games "barring unexpected improvement."
Evans went down in the first quarter at the end of a 61-yard touchdown reception. He did not return to the game, and Bucs coach Bruce Arians described the injury to ESPN as "not good" and said he'd be shocked if Evans plays this week.
Assuming he misses the remainder of the season, Evans will finish 2019 with 67 receptions for 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns. He and Chris Godwin are the only receiving duo in the NFL with over 1,000 yards, as the Buccaneers have consistently attacked opposing teams down the field. Evans' 13 games played will be the fewest of his career; he'd missed only three total games in his previous five seasons.
With the Buccaneers essentially eliminated from playoff contention, Evans' absence should not cause any major issues. Fantasy owners relying on Evans' downfield production will have to desperately scour the waiver wire for a replacement, but there's a chance Godwin singlehandedly wins people some championships.
The former Penn State star had already eclipsed Evans as Tampa's No. 1 receiver and could see a Michael Thomas-esque number of targets over the final three weeks. Slot receiver Justin Watson finished second on the Bucs in targets against the Colts and could be a waiver-wire name to watch.
