Kylian Mbappe has been named in Paris Saint-Germain's 19-man squad to face Nice on Friday and could make his first appearance in three weeks following a hamstring injury.
The 20-year-old has made one 30-minute appearance in PSG's last six league games, but manager Thomas Tuchel has included his most valuable star in the selection for the trip to Nice:
Mbappe has scored twice in six appearances across all competitions this season, while Tuchel is without record signing Neymar following an injury he suffered on international duty with Brazil.
France manager Didier Deschamps also went without the starlet during the recent international break. Les Bleus looked to feel his absence, too, when they edged Iceland 1-0 before drawing 1-1 at home to Turkey in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying.
Mbappe initially suffered the hamstring injury during a 4-0 league win over Toulouse on August 25 and was sidelined for a little more than one month. However, he suffered a similar injury not long after his September return and was sent back to the treatment table.
Tuchel has been unfortunate that forwards Neymar, Mbappe and Edinson Cavani have each had their share of time on the touchline this term, though the latter two are on the cusp of their comebacks, via Goal:
Mauro Icardi—who arrived on a season-long loan from Inter Milan this summer—recently made his first PSG start and scored in a 4-0 drubbing of Angers.
However, there's little doubting the potential impact made by the return of Mbappe, who scored 39 times in 43 appearances last season. He was the highest scorer in Ligue 1, with 33 of those coming in the domestic competition.
Despite his age, Mbappe has demonstrated time and again the kind of tide-turning powers he possesses:
PSG are top of Ligue 1 by two points, but Tuchel will be particularly glad to have his talisman back to fitness in time for their next UEFA Champions League fixture away to Club Brugge on Tuesday.
Statman Dave recently highlighted Mbappe's prolific record in Europe's top-tier tournament:
Mbappe hasn't managed to score against Nice in four appearances (three starts), though he's managed to beat this opponent in each of those encounters.
