Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hit back at Borussia Dortmund chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke following claims the striker's main motivation for moving to the Emirates Stadium in 2018 was money. 

Speaking about Aubameyang to Suddeutsche Zeitung (h/t the Mirror's Alex Richards), Watzke said the Gabon international "will probably be warm-hearted when he looks at his bank account, but on Wednesdays will be saddened when he has to watch the Champions League on television."

In response to the comments, Aubameyang posted the following on social media, making his own feelings on Watzke clear and criticising BVB for the sale of Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona in 2017:

In the summer of 2017, Dortmund decided to cash in on Dembele when Barcelona chased a replacement for Neymar. Per BBC Sport, the total possible value of the deal for Dortmund was £135.5 million, with the Blaugrana having paid £96.8 million up front.

Aubameyang moved to Dortmund in 2013 and enjoyed four-and-a-half prosperous years before his switch to Arsenal. 

The striker helped fill the attacking void following the departure of Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich and was a consistent goalscorer throughout his time at the club. At the end of the 2016-17 season, he was key in the team winning the DFB-Pokal.

While his scoring and success would have earned Aubameyang plenty of favour with the Dortmund fans, the player's departure from the club was bitter. The striker was fined and suspended after he missed a team meeting prior to his switch to north London.

Regardless of Aubameyang's motivation for moving to Arsenal, in his time at the club he's continued to add to his reputation of one of the best forwards in the world.

While the 30-year-old has always been renowned for his blistering pace, since his switch to the Premier League his finishing has been his standout attribute. Aubameyang is clinical when he gets chances, able to finish in different situations and with either foot.

On Monday, the striker earned a crucial point for Arsenal at Manchester United, calmly slotting past David De Gea in the 1-1 draw:

While he's taken to social media to have his say, it's unlikely Zorc's comments will fluster Aubameyang.

As things stand, he's on course for one of his best-ever seasons. Should he continue to score goals at such a prolific rate, there's every chance Arsenal could be back in the Champions League again next season.
