European Tour golfer Thorbjorn Olesen was arrested Monday on suspicion of sexual assault, being intoxicated on board an airplane and failing to comply with the orders of the cabin crew.

Jack de Menezes of The Independent reported Olesen was released from custody pending an investigation into allegations he sexually assaulted a female passenger during a transatlantic flight from Memphis, Tennessee to London.

Nick Pisa of The Sun noted fellow golfer Ian Poulter attempted to calm Olesen, though Poulter's agent Paul Dunkley would only confirm his client interacted with a "slightly intoxicated" passenger but went to sleep before the alleged assault.

A separate source told Pisa that Olesen also urinated in the aisle of the plane.

"He started abusing some of the passengers and crew and then made a pass at one of the female passengers before taking a leak in the aisle," the witness told The Sun. "It was shocking behavior. You would expect it maybe on a budget airline but not in the first-class cabin on [British Airways]."

The situation, which occurred as both golfers were traveling home after last weekend's WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, also saw Olesen become intolerant toward flight staff, per De Menezes.

"Our customers and crews deserve to enjoy their flights, and not to suffer any form of abuse," a British Airways spokesman said. "This sort of behavior will not be tolerated, and the appropriate action will always be taken."

Olesen, a 29-year-old Denmark native, is a five-time winner on the European Tour.
