Jalen Ramsey Says Jaguars Told Him He Won't Receive Contract Extension in 2019

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey has been seeking an extension, but he has been told he won't be getting one this offseason.

"I'm not down about it or anything like that," Ramsey told reporters of the team's decision Tuesday, according to Eugene Frenette of 930 The Game. "I'm blessed."

He added, per The Athletic's Daniel Popper: "The money is always there, my guy."

Ramsey also talked money on Twitter:

Jacksonville exercised the fifth-year option on the 2016 fifth overall pick's rookie contract earlier this year, keeping him under team control through 2020. Per Spotrac, he will make $3.6 million this year and $13.7 million the season after.

Ramsey's name came up in trade rumors last season as Jacksonville struggled to a 5-11 record. And as the rumors swirled, the outspoken star made waves by going on social media:

Ramsey later told ESPN.com's Michael DiRocco that his tweet was directed at "fake fans." He also made it clear he wants to finish his career in Jacksonville.

"I've said multiple times, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again that I want to play for one team my whole career," Ramsey told DiRocco in November 2018.

He then went public in December to try to force the Jaguars' hand, per DiRocco

"Like I said, I'm going to let my agent and the front office handle that, but after what came out here, what was it five weeks ago or however many weeks ago it was, yeah I'm feeling like yeah, if y'all serious about that [a potential trade] not being real, then y'all need to make it happen. If not, then maybe what came out five weeks ago will happen. We'll see."

The 24-year-old Ramsey has quickly turned himself into one of the top defensive backs in football. Through his first three seasons, he has earned two Pro Bowl nods and was also voted first team All-Pro in 2017.

Ramsey is coming off another solid performance, recording 65 tackles, three interceptions and 13 pass breakups in 2018.
