Eli Manning to Start for Giants vs. Eagles; Daniel Jones out with Ankle Injury

New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones has been ruled out for the team's Week 14 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night because of an ankle injury.

Veteran Eli Manning will start.

"You're always eager to play," Manning told reporters Thursday. "That's why you play. That's why you compete and you work out and do everything, to go out there and compete on game day and get wins and put your team in a situation to win. When you're not doing that, you miss it."

For Manning, a free agent at the end of the season, this could be his last hurrah in New York. The Giants have handed the keys to Jones, leaving the 38-year-old two-time Super Bowl MVP with limited opportunities to see the field.

Manning is 116-116 in his career during the regular season and is the franchise's all-time leader in passing yards with 56,537. Jones, meanwhile, was arguably the most talked-about pick of the 2019 draft, with New York taking him sixth overall out of Duke.

A strong preseason by Jones, combined with Manning's 0-2 start to the season, led to a quarterback change by Week 3. And in 11 appearances, Jones has completed 61.6 percent of his passes for 2,374 yards, 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has gone 2-8 as the starter.

Now, Manning will once again lead the Giants—and it will come in the Monday Night Football spotlight in a game with playoff implications. Philadelphia (5-7) enters with a chance to move into a first-place tie in the NFC East with a victory, as the Dallas Cowboys (6-7) lost to the Chicago Bears on Thursday.
