Kylian Mbappe Hints at PSG Exit After Winning Ligue 1 Player of Year Award

Rory Marsden

Kylian Mbappe has hinted he could depart Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Speaking after he picked up his Ligue 1 Player of the Year Award on Sunday, the 20-year-old said it may be time for him to take on a new challenge:

Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco on loan in 2017, and the move was made permanent last summer.

In two seasons, he has netted 45 goals in 55 Ligue 1 appearances and arguably eclipsed Neymar as the club's most important player.

There are few better forwards in the world at the moment, and given his youth, he is only likely to get better and better.

Mbappe's latest comments will likely have piqued the interest of a number of Europe's biggest clubs, particularly Real Madrid, who have been linked with a €280 million (£246 million) move for the Frenchman, per France Football (h/t Sport).

He has a contract with the club until 2023, and PSG will be loath to sell him.

There is also a possibility he does not genuinely want to leave the club but is just eager for more influence at PSG:

The French champions will need to respond carefully to Mbappe's latest comments, as they cannot afford to lose arguably their best player if they are to make a genuine tilt at the UEFA Champions League next term.
