2020 Masters Odds: Tiger Woods Favored to Win over Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy

Megan Armstrong

Tiger Woods triumphed on Sunday when the 43-year-old won his first Masters since 2005 and first major since 2008.

Vegas is not expecting Woods to wait nearly as long to return to the top moving forward, as Jeff Sherman of SportsBookUSA revealed the early odds for the 2020 Masters Tournament:

Woods slipped on the green jacket after finishing 13 under for the tournament and shooting a 70 for Sunday's final round. Under the five-time Masters champion sat a three-way tie for second at 12 under between Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka.

However, while the 15-time major champion personified excellence and redemption in historic fashion on Sunday, a lot can happen in a year. Just ask Woods.

After all, in 2018, Woods left Augusta, Georgia, tied for 32nd place. The likelihood of a Masters repeat in 2020 is unlikely, and that's not a slight on Woods. Overall, there has not been a back-to-back winner at Augusta National Golf Club since Woods did it in 2001 and 2002

In the nearer future, Woods is also favored at 8-1 odds to capture the PGA Championship, which begins on May 16 at Bethpage Black Course in Long Island, New York. Those odds, again, were relayed by Sherman on Sunday afternoon.

Woods last won the Wanamaker Trophy in 2007—ironically cementing back-to-back titles in the tournament. For present-day Tiger, the health of his back and knees are paramount when considering any shot at Sunday success.

Preservation was likely at the forefront of his mind when he decided to skip the Honda Classic earlier this year to ease his schedule ahead of competition in consecutive weeks at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship.

However, Woods then withdrew from the Arnold Palmer Invitational because of a neck strain.

Common sense producing doubt that his body, which has endured several injuries including four back surgeries, can hold up between now and April 2020 is warranted.

But athletes accomplishing the unlikely is a tradition unlike any other.
