Report: Thomas Davis, Chargers Agree to 2-Year, $10.5 Million Contract

Linebacker Thomas Davis, who spent 14 years with the Carolina Panthers, will sign with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that the deal is worth $10.5 million over two years. The deal reportedly features $5.25 million in guaranteed money and includes a $1 million roster bonus owed in March 2020.

Davis confirmed the news via Twitter on Tuesday:

Davis had previously said that he couldn't envision himself putting on a different uniform, but the team made it clear in January that it would go in a different direction:

A first-round pick in 2005, Davis had spent his entire career in Carolina. He earned three Pro Bowl nods and was also named the 2014 Walter Payton Man of the Year.

Davis had been a key piece in the middle of the Panthers defense for more than a decade. Even as he aged, he remained productive. The soon-to-be 36-year-old is coming off a season in which he piled up 79 tackles, two fumble recoveries and six pass breakups.

His 2018 campaign was marred, however, by a four-game suspension stemming from a failed drug test.

He leaves Carolina as the franchise's all-time leading tackler.
