Manny Machado Odds: White Sox New Favorites Ahead of Yankees, Padres, Phillies

Adam Wells

On the day when most teams started spring training, the Chicago White Sox have become the betting favorite to sign Manny Machado

Per Bet Online (h/t B/R Betting), the White Sox are a -150 (bet $150 to win $100) favorite to land the four-time All-Star, followed by the New York Yankees (+200), San Diego Padres (+600) and Philadelphia Phillies (+750).

The odds to sign Machado have gone through numerous changes as the offseason dragged on and teams looked for different options.

Last month, per BetDSI (h/t OddsShark), the Phillies were a +120 favorite to sign Machado. The White Sox (+150) and Yankees (+200) rounded out the top three.

Machado has been fueling the White Sox speculation with some cryptic Instagram posts recently:

The Padres were a late entrant into the Machado sweepstakes when Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Jan. 25 they were pursuing him.

While details of potential offers to Machado have been scarce, Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports reported Tuesday the White Sox's proposal isn't for $250 million over eight years.

SNY.tv's Jim Duquette said last week he heard the Yankees made an offer to Machado of either seven or eight years worth $220 million, via Scott Thompson of SNY.tv.

Duquette later clarified on Twitter he was "speculating about a recent rumor," not reporting the Yankees' offer as fact.

In other words, even though pitchers and catchers have reported for 22 out of 30 teams, there doesn't seem to be any indication Machado is close to signing with anyone.

Regardless of which team does end up with Machado, that club will be getting a 26-year-old superstar who hit .297/.367/.538 with 37 homers and 107 RBI for the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018.
