Former Michigan Wolverines assistant head coach, passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton is reportedly no longer with the program.

Sam Webb of 247Sports' Michigan Insider reported the news, noting Hamilton signed a four-year, $4.25 million deal with the Big Ten school in 2017. He leaves after two seasons and will "pursue other opportunities."

According to the report, Ben McDaniels will be the quarterbacks coach and new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis will coach the wide receivers. McDaniels was originally slated to coach wide receivers prior to the role change.

Hamilton was on Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh's staff at Stanford in 2010.

Aaron McMann of MLive called it "hardly a surprise" he is moving on following the hiring of Gattis, who was previously Alabama's co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. Hamilton was involved in play-calling during the past two seasons.

As for McDaniels, he is the brother of New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and was an offensive analyst for the Wolverines last year. He has made a number of coaching stops in his career, including as the quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos and an offensive assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears.

Michigan was 10-3 last season and fell out of the College Football Playoff race with a blowout loss to Ohio State. It was the 14th time in 15 years the Buckeyes have beaten their rivals to end the regular season.

The Wolverines need to make strides on the offensive side of the ball with these coaching changes if they are going to contend in the Big Ten with the Buckeyes and others. They were a mere 50th in the country in yards per game during the 2018 campaign.
