The Denver Broncos reportedly plan to interview former Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano for their head coaching vacancy.

According to Mike Klis of 9News (h/t Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk), Pagano is expected to interview with the Broncos after having already interviewed with the Green Bay Packers.

Pagano spent the 2018 season as a consultant for the NFL and gave officials a coach's perspective regarding penalties. 

The 58-year-old Pagano is a Boulder, Colorado, native who served as the Colts' head coach from 2012 to 2017.

During his six-year stint in Indianapolis, Pagano went 53-43 with three playoff appearances, including a trip to the AFC Championship Game during the 2014 campaign.

Pagano failed to make the playoffs in any of his final three seasons with the Colts, though, and he went just 4-12 without superstar quarterback Andrew Luck in 2017.

The Broncos fired head coach Vance Joseph on Monday after going 6-10 in 2018.

In Joseph's two seasons at the helm, the Broncos went 11-21 and failed to reach the playoffs.

Defense hasn't been much of a problem for Denver even amid its struggles, as it finished a respectable 13th in points allowed this season and third in total defense in 2017.

Pagano has a defensive background, as he was the Baltimore Ravens' defensive coordinator prior to joining the Colts.

The biggest challenge for Pagano or whoever takes over as Denver's head coach for 2019 will be figuring out the quarterback situation, as Case Keenum struggled in 2018 after enjoying a career year with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017.

In addition to Pagano, the Broncos reportedly have interest in speaking with Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak, Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor, New England Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores and Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, per Williams.
