Juventus' Juan Cuadrado Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado has undergone surgery to repair an injury sustained during the UEFA Champions League match against Young Boys.

The club announced the knee surgery was a success on Friday, per Football Italia:

"Today, Juan Cuadrado was given an arthroscopic treatment on his left knee for the injury to the external meniscus and the cartilaginous fracture reported in the knock sustained during the Champions League match against Young Boys in Bern.

"The intervention, carried out in Barcelona by Dr. Cugat, and assisted by Juventus' Head of Medical Staff, Dr. Claudio Rigo, was perfectly successful. The player will begin the recovery process in the next few days."

According to Juventus blogger Arjun Pradeep, the Colombian is expected to miss three months, adding to the list of Juventus worries:

Cuadrado is a valuable depth piece for Juventus, capable of playing on either wing and as a right-back. The Bianconeri were already short a top player at the latter position, with revelation Joao Cancelo also out injured.

Formerly of Fiorentina and Chelsea, the 30-year-old Cuadrado has started seven Serie A matches and four of Juventus' six UEFA Champions League contests, per WhoScored.com. He's long been a favourite of manager Massimiliano Allegri due to his range, stamina and versatility.

While less efficient than Douglas Costa or Federico Bernardeschi in the attacking third, Cuadrado can run for days and does more defensive work than those two. And while he doesn't score many goals, the ones he does bag tend to be vital, like this late winner against local rivals Torino in 2015:

Statistically, last season was his best yet in Turin, with four goals and six assists in Serie A.

Juventus will play one more match before Serie A's short winter break, and Allegri's depth will likely be tested in the early portion of next year. Fortunately for the Italian, Bernardeschi is back to full health, and he expects to feature against Sampdoria on Saturday:

The former Fiorentina man was a standout early in the season before a few knocks slowed his momentum, and Cuadrado's absence should open the door to more playing time and perhaps a return to form.

Further back Leonardo Spinazzola could finally play his first minutes of the season, as Alex Sandro and Mattia De Sciglio are currently the only other healthy full-backs in the squad.
