Kyler Murray's agent, Scott Boras, threw cold water on the possibility of the Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner playing both football and baseball professionally. 

"Kyler has agreed and the A's agreed to a baseball contract that gave him permission to play college football through the end of the collegiate season," Boras told Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. "After that, he is under contract to play baseball. That is not a determination to make. It's already done."

Murray was selected No. 8 overall by the Oakland Athletics in the 2018 MLB draft, and maintained throughout his excellent season for Oklahoma that his future is in baseball. He did acknowledge over the past week that he would be willing to explore playing professional football as well, however. 

"I'd like to do both, if possible," Murray said. "But I don't know how possible that is."

Boras isn't willing to entertain that notion at the moment.

"From a contractual perspective, it is set," he told Rapoport.

But Murray would undoubtedly have a place in the NFL if he chose to one day play football after torching college football over the past season, throwing for 4,053 yards, 40 touchdowns and seven interceptions while adding 892 yards and another 11 scores on the ground. Those numbers, combined with a Big 12 title and place in the College Football Playoff, were enough to earn him the Heisman over Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins. 

While Murray was a top-10 pick in baseball, however, Rapoport noted that he would more likely fall to the second day of the NFL draft and be off the board in the second or third round. As explosive and talented as Murray is, his height (he's 5'10") would be a concern for some teams. 

Of course, there are shorter NFL quarterbacks who have thrived in the NFL. Drew Brees is the MVP frontrunner this season, while Russell Wilson remains one of the top players at the position. Neither of those players were top-10 MLB picks, however, or had a $4.66 million baseball contract already signed.

So for the time being, Murray's next step will be a professional baseball career. But it sounds as though he isn't completely ruling out a future in football somewhere down the line, even if Boras is.
