Report: Venus Williams Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit Stemming from Car Crash

Tyler Conway

Venus Williams has reached an undisclosed settlement with the family of Jerome Barson, the man who died in a car crash with the tennis star last year.

TMZ Sports reported the deal will cover "certain expenses." Barson's wife Linda was driving when she hit Williams' vehicle as it went through an intersection.

Linda Barson also suffered injuries in the crash.

Police initially found Williams at fault but no criminal charges were filed after an investigation determined she was stuck in the intersection after the light turned red because of another vehicle.

"You got stuck in a bad situation," the officer said. "I'm not giving you a citation, because I don't feel comfortable writing a citation when I'm not 100 percent sure. And I'm not 100 percent sure in this case, because you had the right of way but lost the right of way."

Barson's family alleged Williams was not paying attention at the time of the crash and put herself in harm's way.

Williams said it was an accident in her deposition.
