The New York Jets aren't expected to make a decision on head coach Todd Bowles' future until after the 2018 season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. 

"Decisions won't be rash," Rapoport tweeted, even after the team's shocking 41-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The Bills were starting Matt Barkley at quarterback and coming into the game having scored 20 or more points just twice. 

The Jets have limped to a 3-7 start this season and are now just 23-35 under Bowles since he was hired ahead of the 2015 season. The Bowles era started on a strong note, as the team went 10-6 in his first campaign, though it is just 13-29 since and discontent has settled around the fanbase.

Barring a major turnaround down the stretch, it's hard to imagine that Bowles will survive another losing season, even as the team is in the midst of a rebuild around rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. 

Vocally, the players have continued to support Bowles. As Rich Cimini of ESPN.com wrote: 

"Afterward, players in every corner of the locker room professed their support for Bowles. Offensive guys, defensive guys. Loud guys, quiet guys. Whether it was out of loyalty, political correctness or actual belief, they came to his defense. Yes, everybody loves Todd, but it was the ultimate mixed message, because they played like they wanted him fired."

"Again, T. Bowles is not the problem," safety Jamal Adams said after the loss, per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. "I'm going to ride with T. Bowles until the end. I don't care what the fans say. I'm going to support my coach through thick and thin."

It's hard to believe the Jets will orchestrate any sort of turnaround this year, however, given they aren't particularly good on either side of the ball. They're 29th in yards per game (299.4), 23rd in points per contest (20.8), 18th in yards allowed per game (361.6) and 20th in points allowed per contest (25.4).

Bowles has an expiration date, just not until this offseason.
