Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy is the subject of a $13.5 million lawsuit filed by ex-girlfriend Delicia Cordon and her friend Elizabeth Donald for injuries they suffered in a July home invasion they allege was orchestrated by the NFL player.
On Tuesday, TMZ Sports reported Cordon and Donald allege in court documents McCoy "masterminded" the attack and should be held liable for the incident. He hasn't been criminally charged or named a suspect in the case by police in Georgia.
The allegations came to light in a July Instagram post by another friend of Cordon, who posted graphic pictures of Cordon's injuries and alleged further mistreatment by McCoy, including the use of illegal drugs and abuse of his son and dog, per TMZ Sports.
McCoy issued a statement denying the allegations on Twitter.
"For the record, the totally baseless and offensive claims made against me today on social media are completely false," he wrote. "Furthermore, I have not had any direct contact with any of the people involved in months."
Although Cordon said on the initial 911 call she felt McCoy "set me up" for the attack at a home he owned, her attorney Tanya Mitchell Graham told CBS News a few days later Cordon was "no longer certain the NFL star was involved in the attack."
In September, NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy confirmed to Mark Maske of the Washington Post the running back would remain eligible to play during the investigation.
"There's been no change to his status," McCarthy said.
Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reported before Week 1 police had "yet to uncover anything incriminating" against McCoy through two months of their investigation into the break-in and assaults.
The running back has tallied 328 yards from scrimmage and no touchdowns through five appearances for the Bills so far during the 2018 season.
