The Atlanta Hawks and free-agent swingman Vince Carter agreed to terms on a one-year deal at the $2.4 million veteran minimum Wednesday, per Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania. 

According to ESPN.com's Adrian Wojnarowski, Atlanta wants Carter "around its young locker room," which now includes point guard Trae Young, as well as promising frontcourt anchor John Collins. 

The mentorship role will be a familiar one for Carter, who spent last season as a leader in a young and inexperienced Sacramento Kings locker room. 

And while he turned 41 years old in January, Carter has been adamant retirement isn't on the table right now. 

"I've worked extra hard just to be able to last because I love this game," Carter told the Sacramento Bee's Jason Jones. "It's not a money thing. Obviously you want to be compensated for what you bring to the table, I get that, but it’s not the end of the world. I put the extra work in, whatever the case may be to be able to do this, to play games, to compete."

Thanks to that hard work, Carter can still provide some supplementary scoring off the bench in a pinch. 

Last season, the eight-time All-Star averaged 5.4 points on 40.3 percent shooting from the field, including 34.5 percent shooting from three, in 17.7 minutes per game.
