Luka Doncic's Agent Says 2018 NBA Draft Decision Won't Be Impacted by Teams

Scott Polacek

To hear NBA prospect Luke Doncic's agent tell it, the Slovenian prospect's potential NBA destination won't have an impact on whether he elects to continue playing in Europe or comes Stateside to play in the NBA.

"Luka has stated no particular thought on any NBA teams," his agent, Bill Duffy, said Thursday, per Sean Deveney of Sporting News.

This comes after Alex Madrid of EuroHoops.net shared comments from Doncic suggesting he may not be done playing in the EuroLeague even at the conclusion of this season.

"Ι'm not sure if these are the last two games [in EuroLeague]," he said. "We have yet to make this decision. Perhaps after the season."

Deveney noted Doncic's comment "led to speculation" he may not want to play for the Sacramento Kings—who hold the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft—and would stay in Spain and EuroLeague on Real Madrid unless he could play at a preferred destination in the NBA.

Jonathan Givony of ESPN noted Doncic's "representation has some very unique leverage to steer him to a specific destination, or even nudge a trade along, should they choose."

The comments from his agent suggest otherwise, meaning Doncic will surely be one of the first names called come draft day.

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman projected him as the No. 1 overall pick to the Phoenix Suns in his most recent mock draft and pointed to the fact the team hired Igor Kokoskov as head coach. Kokoskov led a Slovenia team featuring Doncic to the gold medal at EuroBasket and is quite familiar with the highly regarded prospect.
