Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham underwent ankle surgery on May 1, and it could force him to miss the team's spring workouts, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.
His goal is to be ready for training camp in July, although there is still hope he can participate in organized team activities or minicamp.
The 30-year-old initially suffered the ankle injury in Week 16 against the Oakland Raiders, although he still played the entire postseason for the Eagles' run to the Super Bowl. He had a strip-sack of Tom Brady in the title game.
Prior to that, Graham was in the midst of one of the best seasons of his career, posting a team-high 9.5 sacks. He also had two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.
Although there is plenty of time for the defensive end to return to the field, the Eagles do at least have enough depth on the line to overcome the loss if Graham is forced to miss time.
Young players like Derek Barnett and rookie fourth-round pick Josh Sweat can get some much-needed reps to help develop, while veteran Chris Long is a proven commodity who can help the pass rush.
Of course, with Graham heading into the final year of his contract, it will be important for him to prove he can stay healthy.
