Massimiliano Allegri to Discuss Juventus Future Amid Links to Arsenal Job

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is set to discuss his future with the club amid speculation he could replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

"With Allegri we have a relationship that has worked and does work. After winning the Scudetto we'll talk about the future, which I'm sure will be full of satisfactions together," said general manager Giuseppe Marotta, per Rai Sport (h/t Football Italia).

Juventus are virtually assured of retaining their Serie A title as they are six points clear of Napoli in second place with two games left to play. They also possess a far superior goal difference to Maurizio Sarri's side.

Arsenal want to talk to Allegri about the Arsenal job and are keen to make an appointment before the start of the FIFA 2018 World Cup on Thursday, June 14, per Jeremy Wilson and Jason Burt at the Telegraph.

Kaveh Solhekol at Sky Sports said Juventus won't stand in his way if he wants to go:

Allegri is one of several names that have been linked with the Arsenal job and is said to be considering a new challenge. Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have also been considered, per Miguel Delaney at The Independent.

David Ornstein at BBC Sport offered an update on the contenders:

Allegri joined Juventus in 2014 from AC Milan and has won three Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia crowns with the Old Lady. He has also guided the team to two UEFA Champions League finals in 2015 and 2017.

The Italian certainly has the required experience and is also a good tactician. Arsenal may have been impressed with his tactical switch against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League in March which saw them seal a 2-1 comeback win.

With his team trailing Allegri brought on Kwadwo Asamoah and Stephan Lichtsteiner and moved to a 4-3-3 formation which swung the game in Juventus' favour. The win sent the Italians into the quarter-finals of the competition with a 4-3 aggregate victory.

Samuel Luckhurst at the Manchester Evening News was impressed by Allegri:

However, it remains to be seen if Arsenal can tempt Allegri away from Juventus. The Gunners cannot offer Champions League football next season and need to rebuild this summer, per sports writer Ben Fairthorne:

Football journalist David Amoyal said he would be surprised to see Allegri leave:

Replacing Wenger after 22 years is a tricky task and Arsenal will be desperate to avoid the mistakes made by Manchester United when Sir Alex Ferguson departed after 26 years. The Red Devils appointed David Moyes and he lasted just 10 months before being sacked.

Allegri looks to be a stronger contender, but Arsenal have work to do to convince him his future lies away from Italy and in north London.
