Manchester United Transfer News: Rodrygo Goes Targeted in Latest Rumours

Gill Clark

Manchester United have reportedly joined Barcelona, Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign Brazilian starlet Rodrygo Goes from Santos.

The highly rated 17-year-old has attracted attention from Jose Mourinho's scouts, and the player's agents are listening to offers from European clubs, per Sport (h/t Lucas Sposito at Sport Witness).

Rodrygo has a release clause of €50 million (£43.9 million), but his club are hoping to increase that figure as they feel it does not reflect his true worth.

Santos supporter Andre Noruega offered an overview of Rodrygo's talents:

The teenager has been likened to Neymar, and Barcelona have already made contact with the Brazilian over a move to the Camp Nou, per Lluis Miguelsanz of Sport.

Rodrygo only made his first-team debut for Santos in November 2017 but has already caught the eye. He became the youngest player to score in the Copa Libertadores when he netted in a 3-1 win over Club Nacional:

The comparisons with Neymar are pretty accurate, according to Selecao Brasileira:

Manchester United have plenty of attacking talent in their squad such as Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, but none possesses the flair and excitement of a player such as Rodrygo.

Manchester United's football this season has been described as boring by former manager Louis van Gaal, per David McDonnell at the Mirror.

The Red Devils look set to strengthen this summer in a bid to try to close the gap on champions Manchester City. Although Mourinho's men are on course to finish second in the Premier League, they are a distant 16 points behind City with two games left to play.

Rodrygo could add an extra dimension to the United attack, but the Red Devils look as if they may face stiff competition for the teenager's services.
