The Dallas Cowboys reportedly didn't want to part ways with their second-round draft pick to acquire Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas.

Chris Wesseling of NFL.com cited colleague Ian Rapoport's appearance on NFL Up to the Minute, noting Dallas "balked at the idea" of giving up the No. 50 overall pick in the 2018 draft. The Cowboys ultimately used the selection on Texas offensive lineman Connor Williams, although Rapoport said they may have still made a Thomas trade with a third-round pick "and a lot more."

The potential connection with the Cowboys has been there since Thomas said to head coach Jason Garrett "If y'all have the chance, come get me" following a matchup in December, per Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News.

Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram reported earlier this month Dallas had discussed a possible Thomas trade leading up to the draft but was met with an asking price of a first- and third-round pick on Seattle's end.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider told Gregg Bell of the News Tribune the team has fielded calls about Thomas from a number of teams but nothing was enticing enough to actually complete.

That means Thomas could be a member of the Seahawks for the foreseeable future, considering Wesseling noted Rapoport said the team will work on a contract extension with the safety.

Thomas is set to be an unrestricted free agent following the 2018 campaign, but reaching an extension would provide some continuity after an offseason of change for the team's secondary. The Seahawks released cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Jeremy Lane this offseason, and safety Kam Chancellor suffered a serious neck injury in 2017.

Thomas is a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro selection and is just 28 years old.
