The Sharks bounced back from a 7-0 shellacking in Game 1 with a 4-3 Game 2 victory in double overtime, handing the Golden Knights their first loss of the postseason.

Why the Golden Knights can pay on the NHL lines

Vegas can rebound on the road by playing a much smarter game that involves taking fewer penalties and staying focused versus a more veteran San Jose squad.

The Sharks scored two of their four Game 2 goals on seven power-play opportunities, including the game-winner just over five minutes into the second extra session. They did not score any of their goals on full strength 5-on-5 chances, which is a credit to goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who made 43 saves in the losing effort.

The Knights also thought they had Game 2 won toward the end of the first overtime, but the potential game-winning goal was overturned due to goaltender interference, so they were close to going up 2-0.

Why the Sharks can pay on the NHL lines

San Jose played in the Stanley Cup final only two years ago and swept a good Anaheim Ducks team in the first round, and that experience is invaluable at this point.

No matter how well Vegas played through the first five games of the playoffs, the Sharks were great in five of their first six, and they realized Game 2 counted just as much as the series opener.

That said, they will lean on their home-ice advantage now and attempt to build on their momentum taken away from evening the series at 1-1.

Smart betting pick

The Golden Knights remain small series favorites despite splitting the first two games, and they enjoyed some success at San Jose during the regular season, winning 5-3 in the first meeting there and then falling 2-1 in overtime with backup goalie Malcolm Subban in net.

However, the Sharks will get winger Evander Kane back from a one-game suspension, and they have gone 12-4 in their last 16 home games, according to the OddsShark NHL Database. Take the home team to win Game 3.

NHL betting trends
