Paul George on Future with Thunder: 'It's Too Soon' to Make Decision

After the Oklahoma City Thunder were eliminated from the playoffs via a Game 6 loss to the Utah Jazz in the first round on Friday night, Thunder forward Paul George wasn't yet ready to make a commitment regarding his NBA future.

According to Fred Katz of the Norman Transcript, George said, "It's too soon. I'd love to remain a Thunder, but that's what the summer is for. We'll address that in the summer."

The 2017-18 season was George's first in OKC following a trade from the Indiana Pacers. He can opt out of his contract and become a free agent this offseason.

The 27-year-old George was named an All-Star for the third straight season and fifth time overall in his career after averaging 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game in the 2017-18 season.

He proved to be a good complement to 2016-17 NBA MVP Russell Westbrook, who once again averaged a triple-double this season.

Although Utah eliminated Oklahoma City in six games, George arguably raised his level of play in the postseason with 24.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per contest.

Aside from Westbrook and George, though, the Thunder didn't get much production throughout their lineup. That includes from Carmelo Anthony, who can also become a free agent this offseason.

Maintaining a partnership with Westbrook by re-signing with the Thunder could be an attractive option for George, but there is no question that OKC needs to put more around them if the team hopes to contend in the stacked Western Conference.

George has long been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers since he hails from Palmdale, California, and those whispers will likely continue to grow after the Thunder's disappointing first-round exit.
