Buffalo Bills guard Richie Incognito asked the team to release him Saturday after announcing his retirement earlier in the week.

Incognito tweeted the following to the Bills:

On April 10, Incognito told Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News that he was retiring from football due to health issues: "I'm, done. That's it. It's been a long career. Went to the doctor. My liver and kidneys are shutting down. The stress is killing me. It's just about doing what's right. I just want to be in the Hall of Fame."

The Bills placed Incognito on the reserve/retired list Thursday.

On April 5, Incognito tweeted that he had parted ways with Athletes First, the agency that represented him.

That came shortly after the veteran offensive lineman restructured his contract to remain with the Bills.

Per Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk, Incognito took less salary and added a $1 million roster bonus to his contract, which saved the Bills $1.675 million in salary cap space.

Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith speculated that Incognito wants to be released due to the fact that it would prevent him from having to pay back his signing bonus.

The 34-year-old Incognito was named to the Pro Bowl in each of the past three seasons with the Bills.

If he remains retired, it will represent another huge loss for Buffalo on the offensive line. Center Eric Wood also retired this offseason due to a neck injury, while offensive tackle Cordy Glenn was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals.

John Miller and Vladimir Ducasse are currently penciled in as Buffalo's starting guards with Incognito out of the picture.
