Free-agent center Andrew Bogut plans to sit out the remainder of the 2017-18 season despite garnering interest from multiple teams.

Bogut released a statement on the situation on Twitter:

The No. 1 overall draft pick in 2005 is expected to make himself available when free agency opens July 1.

Bogut appeared in 23 games this season for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 1.6 points and 3.4 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per contest.

The Lakers waived the 7-foot Australian in January to create more playing time for younger frontcourt members.

Bogut played in 26 games for the Dallas Mavericks last season before getting traded to the Philadelphia 76ers and waived days later.

He then signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers but suffered a fractured left tibia in his first game with the team, which caused him to miss the rest of the campaign.

After a seven-year stint with the Milwaukee Bucks, Bogut was traded to the Golden State Warriors prior to the 2012-13 season.

The 33-year-old won a championships with the Dubs, and although he didn't put up big numbers, he was a key member of the team due to his rebounding and screen-setting ability.

While Bogut is no longer a full-time starter, he could play a big role for a contending team next season.
