After one season at Duke, Marvin Bagley III is trying his luck in the NBA.
Bagley made an official announcement regarding his future Wednesday:
He may have only spent one season in Durham, North Carolina, but what a season it was.
Bagley led Duke to a 29-8 record and a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament. He averaged 20.5 points and 8.3 rebounds in four NCAA tournament games as the Blue Devils made a run to the Elite Eight. As a freshman, he led the team in scoring (21.0 points per game) and rebounds (11.1).
The 19-year-old rewrote the record books during his first and only season as a Blue Devil. Here's a sample:
- Most points by a Duke freshman in a season opener (25)
- Most double-doubles by a Duke freshman
- Most 30-plus-point games by a freshman in ACC history (7)
It will go down among the best one-and-done careers ever.
The 6'11", 234-pound forward is projected to be a top-five pick and is in the mix to go No. 1 overall. While his size makes him a strong presence in the paint, his versatility can keep a defense honest. He shot 39.7 percent from beyond the arc.
His game is reminiscent of several different NBA players:
Bagley will likely be among the first to hear his name called in June's draft. He just has to wait to find out how high he will go and where.
