Duke's Mike Krzyzewski and Kentucky's John Calipari are the highest-paid college basketball coaches in the country, according to research published Wednesday by USA Today.          

Krzyzewski tops the list with $8.98 million in earnings this year, with Calipari occupying the No. 2 spot at $7.99 million. Calipari also owns the highest buyout among all coaches at $30 million. 

Ohio State boss Chris Holtmann, who will rake in $7.15 million during his first year on the job, clocks in at No. 3 overall. Kansas' Bill Self ($4.95 million) and Michigan State's Tom Izzo ($4.36 million) round out the top five. 

As far as conference affiliation is concerned, the Big Ten and Big 12 dominate the biggest earners. 

The Big Ten has six of the country's 20 highest-paid coaches, including four (Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan and Indiana) inside the top 10. The Big 12, meanwhile, touts five (Kansas, West Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor) of the top 16. 

Conversely, the Big East's top earner—Villanova head coach Jay Wright—checks in at No. 24 overall with annual earnings of $2.59 million. 

Further down the list, North Carolina's Roy Williams sits at No. 41 overall for the ACC at a shade under $2.2 million.

However, that number doesn't account for his total earnings. 

According to USA Today, "Williams also has personal contracts with Nike and Learfield for clothing/apparel and multimedia obligations, respectively, as well as permission from the school to receive pay for operating a camp and making speaking appearances."

North Carolina did not disclose how much those agreements are worth.
