Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Sergej Milinkovic-Savic Bid Rumours

Matt Jones

Manchester United are reportedly ready to make an offer of £80 million to Lazio in an attempt to sign their midfield maestro Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

According to John Richardson of the Sunday Mirror, the Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho is keen to restructure his midfield, with Michael Carrick retiring at the end of the season and Marouane Fellaini's contract also set to expire in the summer.

Additionally, Richardson's report suggested "there are also doubts over the long-term future of record £89 million buy Paul Pogba."

According to Richardson, Nice star Jean Michael Seri and Napoli playmaker Jorginho are on their shortlist, but United are ready to spend big in an attempt to get Milinkovic-Savic on board.

Richardson noted the Red Devils had scouts in attendance in Rome on Thursday to watch the 22-year-old in action, although he spent the game on the bench as Lazio cruised to victory.

Milinkovic-Savic has emerged as one of the best footballers in Serie A this season and has been the driving force behind Lazio's attempt to finish in the top three spots in the table. As noted by WhoScored.com, he's thrived in all scenarios for the capital club:

The Serbia international is a tremendous player, and it's easy to see why fees like the one aforementioned are being associated with him.

Milinkovic-Savic is exceptional in so many different facets. There aren't many players in world football who can win a tackle, carry the ball forward and either set up or score a goal. But the Lazio man has showcased all of those capabilities in abundance this season.

Factor in his physicality and his ability to dominate aerial battles, already Milinkovic-Savic is looking close to being a complete midfielder. Goal's Mootaz Chehade suggested earlier in the season he'd be worth a massive outlay:

It's unlikely United are the only club having a good look at the midfielder, though, with speculation gathering pace ahead of the summer.

According to Jose Felix Diaz of Marca, Real Madrid have had their interest piqued by his performances and consider him a "more than interesting" option ahead of a potential summer rebuild.

As relayed by Football Italia, in addition to the two sides aforementioned, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked with Milinkovic-Savic. With that in mind, getting him would be a coup for United; journalist Liam Canning thinks he'd be a tremendous acquisition:

You sense the Red Devils would have to pay more than the £80 million quoted to sign the Lazio man. As noted by Football Italia, the president of the Serie A side has said the club have already rejected offers worth €100 million (£88 million) for their star man.

Still, based on the interest in him and the continued progression Milinkovic-Savic makes, there will surely be some serious moves for the midfielder in the summer. And if United are ready to revamp their central options, then looking to build around the Serbian for years to come would be a positive step.
