Chrissy Teigen Offers to Pay McKayla Maroney's Fine Linked to Larry Nassar NDA

Former United States gymnast McKayla Maroney could reportedly be fined $100,000 if she speaks out against Larry Nassar at his sentencing this week as a part of the non-disclosure agreement she signed in her $1.25 million settlement with USA Gymnastics, according to Chris Spargo of the Daily Mail.

Model Chrissy Teigen has publicly offered to pay that fine for her, tweeting:

Maroney, 22, is one of many United States gymnasts—including Aly Raisman, Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas—to have accused Larry Nassar of sexually assaulting them. Raisman has been publicly critical of the way USA Gymnastics handled the entire situation: 

Maroney, meanwhile, has since filed a lawsuit against USA Gymnastics for making her sign an NDA to not disclose she was molested by Nassar, claiming that doing so was illegal.

"A simple fact is this: If Michigan State University, USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic Committee had paid attention to any of the red flags in Larry Nassar's behavior, I never would have met him, I never would have been 'treated' by him and I never would have been abused by him," she said in a statement in December (h/t Colin Dwyer of NPR).

Maroney first broke that NDA in October when she posted about her abuse on Twitter, though that tweet has since been taken down. She wrote of Nassar (h/t Tracy Connor of NBC News):

"It seemed whenever and wherever this man could find the chance, I was 'treated.' It happened in London before my team and I won the gold medal, and It happened before I won my Silver.

"For me, the scariest night of my life happened when I was 15 years old. I had flown all day and night with the team to get to Tokyo. He'd given me a sleeping pill for the flight, and the next thing I know, I was all alone with him in his hotel room getting a 'treatment.' I thought I was going to die that night."

According to Eric Levenson and Elizabeth Joseph of CNN.com, Nassar "pleaded guilty in November to seven counts of criminal sexual conduct in Ingham County in Michigan" and also "pleaded guilty to three other criminal counts in Eaton County" and "has already been sentenced to 60 years in prison for child pornography charges."

As many as 98 victim impact statements are expected as a part of Nassar's sentencing.
