North Carolina vs. Florida State: Odds, College Basketball Betting Pick

OddsShark.com

The 24th-ranked Florida State Seminoles (11-2) will try to pick up their first conference win on Wednesday when they host the 12th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels (12-2) as small favorites.

Last Saturday, the Seminoles dropped their first ACC game to the Duke Blue Devils 100-93 but covered the spread as 11.5-point road underdogs, while the Tar Heels are coming off a 73-69 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons yet failed to beat the number as 14-point home chalk.

Point spread: The Seminoles opened as one-point favorites; the total is at 163, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. (Line updates and matchup report)

Why the Tar Heels can cover the spread

North Carolina has won the past seven meetings with Florida State, going 6-1 against the spread, according to the OddsShark College Basketball Database.

The Tar Heels have won the last two games between the teams by double digits, averaging 101 points and allowing 86.5 in two high-scoring affairs that both sailed over the total.

In fact, the previous five head-to-head matchups have all gone over along with 10 of 12. Before falling short of covering against Wake Forest, North Carolina was on a 4-1 ATS run.

Why the Seminoles can cover the spread

Despite losing their ACC opener, the Seminoles should feel good about themselves, as they held a 49-45 halftime lead at Duke before the Blue Devils erupted for 55 points after the intermission.

Freshman Marvin Bagley III was simply unstoppable for Duke with 32 points and a season-high 21 rebounds, and the Tar Heels do not have a player on their roster capable of dominating like that inside.

Senior Phil Cofer led Florida State with a team-high 28 points, making 6-of-10 shots from three-point range, and he should be able to turn in another similar performance here against North Carolina.

Smart betting pick

The Seminoles have lost two games by a combined eight points so far this season, and they will be highly motivated to defeat the Tar Heels in this spot.

The loss to the Blue Devils gave this Florida State squad plenty of confidence, and North Carolina might also be caught looking ahead to Saturday's road matchup with the eighth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers.

For those reasons, take a shot on the Seminoles to win and cover this one.
