Manu Ginobili Wonders Why Kawhi Leonard Is Smiling and Laughing More

Andrew Gould

Kawhi Leonard rarely shows emotion on the basketball court.

Seeing the San Antonio Spurs superstar smile is like picturing James Harden without a beard or JR Smith wearing a shirt.

That has changed recently, however. The 26-year-old forward has flaunted his pearly whites throughout his trip to China.

When the Spurs posted an upbeat photo of Leonard, Manu Ginobili took notice of his excessive joy and asked why his notoriously subdued teammate is suddenly smiling so much:

And yes, he noticed the typo. If only Twitter would add an "edit" function:

Contrary to what Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale and other onlookers believe, Leonard is not a robot. This is not the first evidence of that either.

Appearing with Spurs teammates in a commercial last year, The Claw playfully admired his snowball origami. In an April feature, former teammate Matt Bonner told Bleacher Report's Jonathan Abrams that Leonard "has one of the best smiles you've ever seen. It's contagious."

Ginobili also talked about Leonard's taking ownership of the team.

"Before, he was more introverted and waiting for things to happen," Ginobili told Abrams. "And then he started to realize the type of talents he has and how important he is for the team. And he knows he's going to have the ball."

Perhaps that confidence has translated off the court. Or maybe he's letting his guard down for the cameras. Or he could just be enjoying his offseason excursion.
