7 WWE Stars Who Need to Turn Face or Heel to Rejuvenate Character

The Doctor Chris Mueller

WWE needs to freshen up its roster every so often, and there are plenty of ways to accomplish this. Sometimes we see Superstars change brands, form new tag teams, break up existing duos or adopt a new look.

However, one of the most effective ways to change things up is for an established character to go from heel to babyface or vice versa.

All of the biggest stars on the roster have changed their alignment at least once. Randy Orton has gone back and forth more times than can be counted, and the same can be said for Big Show. Even John Cena used to be a bad guy.

This slideshow will look at seven Superstars who could benefit from a heel or face turn. Considering the subject has been covered countless times, Cena and Roman Reigns will not be included on the list.

7. Rhyno

Rhyno's current gimmick is a guy who hangs out backstage eating spray cheese on crackers while Heath Slater tries to be funny.

What happened to the guy who once scared the living daylights out of everyone in ECW with his intensity and brutality?

There's nothing wrong with doing some comedy segments on occasion, but when you have someone with the level of experience and popularity as Rhyno, you don't put him in a third-rate tag team.

The master of the Gore needs to unleash his inner monster again by turning on Heath Slater and going back to his violent ways. It's the only hope he has of ever being taken seriously again.

6. Tony Nese

Tony Nese has an incredible physique, equally impressive agility and enviable wrestling ability. How WWE has managed to miss the mark on pushing him is a mystery.

The cruiserweight division needs some variety. We have seen the same handful of Superstars fighting over the title for the past year.

Nese's performances during the Cruiserweight Classic were some of the most memorable, but he hasn't been given a chance to show the same skills on the main roster.

As a heel, he isn't supposed to be the most exciting wrestler in the ring. If he were allowed to transition into a babyface, The Premier Athlete would be able to showcase all of his high-flying offense in addition to the power moves he can perform on the smaller wrestlers in the division.

5. Erick Rowan

WWE has tried multiple times to push Luke Harper and Erick Rowan without The Wyatt Family. Harper has gained some popularity, but Rowan has been all but forgotten.

Harper turned babyface by default once he started feuding with his former mentor, and he proved he could handle himself against main event stars like John Cena and Randy Orton.

Rowan has always been a villain, so there is no reason why management shouldn't give him a shot to find success with a revamped character and a face turn.

The odds of him winning a top title in WWE are slim, but the company could still get its money's worth out of Rowan as an unconventional hero who embodies the phrase "Don't judge a book by its cover."

4. Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt is one of the biggest examples of wasted potential in WWE history. His gimmick was completely unique, and he quickly gained the support of the WWE Universe shortly after debuting with The Wyatt Family.

However, failed feud after failed feud has taken all the bite out of what used to be one of the most intimidating characters in the company.

Wyatt still delivers great promos, but it gets harder to take him seriously when he constantly fails to back up his bold claims.

The Eater of Worlds already has a large following among the WWE Universe. It would be easy for the company to turn him into a hero without changing much about his gimmick.

3. The Ascension

Success in NXT is no longer guaranteed to lead to success on the main roster, and the best example of this is The Ascension.

Konnor and Viktor were as over as anyone else in the developmental system when they were dominating the tag team division.

When they were called up, many fans expected them to be the next Legion of Doom, but they have been relegated to playing background characters in Fashion Police segments.

Two big, mean, painted-up warriors shouldn't be going to Eddie Money concerts (not that there's anything wrong with liking Eddie Money). They need a fresh start.

SmackDown is in need of a good babyface tag team following the breakup of American Alpha. The New Day can't do all the heavy lifting on its own, and The Ascension could prove to be more popular as good guys.

2. Sasha Banks

Sasha Banks needs to turn heel. There's no two ways about it. She is a great hero for little girls but so much more entertaining as the egotistical villain.

One of the reasons she became so popular in NXT was because she played her role as a heel to perfection.

It feels like WWE has been building toward a Bayley vs. Banks feud for the past few months, but it has yet to pull the trigger.

Some expected it to happen when The Hugger defeated The Boss for a shot at Alexa Bliss' women's title, but nothing happened after the match.

SummerSlam is the perfect opportunity. Banks could either cost her friend the championship or attack Bayley after she defeats Bliss to set up a rivalry that could last for a few months.

1. Gallows and Anderson

Raw's tag team division has more heels than babyfaces at the moment, so turning one of the villainous teams into heroes would freshen things up a bit.

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson got a face pop during the July 24 episode of Raw when they called Washington, DC, a "good brothers town."

They may be bullies, but the former Bullet Club members could easily make the transition to being good guys in order to give themselves some new feuds.

Challenging The Revival or Cesaro and Sheamus for the titles would produce some great matches and give fans a chance to see a different side of their characters.

Turning face doesn't mean they have to start kissing babies and pandering to whatever town they are in. All they have to do is direct their aggression toward heels, and everything else will fall into place.
